Creative inspiration strikes at the oddest times, and so it did for me a few weeks ago. I'd filled in an entry form for the Cake International Exhibition 2012, but couldn't seem to get into it. Then I lost my Mum. Suddenly my cake was the most important thing to do, it was as though Mum was guiding me to finish it. With her help, I designed, decorated and completed it within 3 weeks and earned a silver medal for my efforts. I created something wonderful, as well as a lasting memory of Mum.
The accolade of winning a gold and silver award at the Cake International Sugarcraft exhibition is the - icing on the cake!
In November 2010, Julie won the prestigious gold award at the international cake competition, part of the International Craft and Hobby Fair in Birmingham. The judges were looking for the following: creativity/development of new ideas; workmanship/craft skills shown; composition/colour and proportion; presentation and visual appeal.

"Apart from the enormity of gaining a Gold Award. What gave me the most pleasure after finishing my cake was simply, watching people's faces light up when they saw it! The accolade of winning the gold award at the

"Hi Julie, your cake is wonderful... A very refreshing style and clever colour combination too! I love the fern leaves wrapping artistically around the cake. Fab! Well done..."
